We are Dara Smith and Ian McDonald and we started writing music together about 6 years ago under the name Lakker.
Dara's musical background started with the clarinet and then moved on to dj-ing and a diploma in sound engineering and then on to a degree in audio visual communication.Ian is about to start his PhD in music in trinity college and a member of the young composers collective and Spatial Music Collective as well as being a freelance producer. Dara (electronics) and Ian (vocals, piano, electronics) worked together in the band "undermine" where and went on to form the electronic duo Lakker after wards. As fans of many genres of music we wanted to bring the heavy and noisy sounds of metal that we found exciting and explosive into the world of electronic music. Whilst maintaining an appreciation for deeply crafted processed sounds created by synthesis and the vibrancy of sampled found sound. Described in the Journal of Music in Ireland (JMI) as "one of the best electronic acts in Ireland," their output has ranged from electro-acoustic soundscape pieces to mashed-up death-metal-sampling breakcore: a diversity reflected in their releases to date on labels such as Risc Records, Go Away Recordings and the online EP 'Cosas' with The Alphabet Set. Live, they have played alongside a plethora of acts like Andrew Weatherall, Tim Exile, The Bug, Aaron Spectre, Pamelia Kirstin, Chevron and Cylob, and have made a number of appearances at the DEAF, Mor, Leechrum , Mantua and Cork French Film festivals Lakker Debut album was released on ladybird records and recieved 85% from mongrel magazine and 4.5 out of 5 from Foggy Notions who said, "Ruido" is their first full length album and for fans of intelligent crafted noise, its a must have" and "When you finally crawl out from the dark abyss that is "Ruido", you will want to fall right back in again to experience this truly frightening album time and time again."
